City of Newcastle (CN) is seeking a Sports Support Officer to join our Parks and Recreation team, supporting the wellbeing of the community through the provision of places and spaces for active and passive recreation and protection of the natural environment.
In this varied role, you’ll draw upon your relevant experience to provide administrative support for the operation of CN sporting facilities and activities, ensuring a positive customer experience. Liaising with sporting clubs, associations, and the broader community, you’ll oversee sportsground allocations, as well as the provision of keys, and the issuing of licenses.
Additional responsibilities include reporting on current trends and utilisation that will guide the strategic decision making for the provision of city-wide sporting facilities; constructively resolving conflicts and issues related to the coordination of sporting activities and events at CN’s sporting facilities; implementing CN’s sports governance framework; invoicing; and maintaining CN’s booking system for sportsgrounds.

The essentials you’ll need:
- Qualifications in sport and recreation (or similar discipline) and/or equivalent relevant industry experience or demonstrated experience in events, bookings, leisure or administration management.
- Knowledge of administration processes related to Sporting Clubs and Associations and previous experience working with volunteer or community groups.
- Proven ability to work in a rapidly changing, dynamic environment and be an effective team player in a flexible and reactive workplace.
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent liaison, negotiation, conflict resolution and problem-solving skills with a strong customer focus.
- Demonstrated computer proficiency in Microsoft Office, website administration, corporate systems and booking systems experience.
- Class C Drivers Licence.
Other valuable skills you may have:
- Demonstrated understanding of the Local Government Act.
- Demonstrated experience with corporate systems.
- Be willing and able to work outside regular business hours including evenings and weekends.
