City of Newcastle (CN) is seeking an experienced Emergency Management Coordinator for the day to day management and strategic coordination of Emergency Management (EM) activities across CN.

Drawing on your strong professional experience and utilising your well-developed communication, problem-solving, and project management skills, you will provide advice to Council, executive leadership, and service units in EM related matters. You will establish and maintain effective relationships with appropriate organisations in respect to emergency management activities.

In this role you will be required to strengthen CN’s internal EM capability as well as ensuring CN is compliant with its legislative and other external responsibilities.

The essentials you’ll need:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Emergency Management or a related field.
  • Previous experience in a similar role in developing and implementing Emergency Management Frameworks with supporting plans and procedures.
  • Thorough understanding and knowledge of the State Emergency and Rescue Management Act 1989 and other associated legislation/policy with their associated arrangements and demonstrated experience working with external and internal stakeholders in implementing and fulfilling these arrangements.
  • Thorough understanding of the concepts & principles of contemporary emergency management and their application.
  • High level knowledge and demonstrated experience in coordinating emergency management planning processes, control of emergency response and recovery operations, and operating in multi-agency situations.
  • Thorough understanding and awareness of Business Continuity (BCM) Management and Business Continuity Planning arrangements.
  • Proven high-level relationship building, oral and written communication skills.
  • Hold a current driver’s licence.

Other valuable skills you may have:

  • Relevant Local Government experience. 
  • Proven ability in use of Microsoft Office, GIS and emergency management applications.
